HopXL was born from a simple observation: the most advanced extraction science in the world was being applied to every botanical EXCEPT hops. We changed that.
Our founding team spent years in botanical extraction โ working with hydrocarbon closed-loop systems, perfecting terpene preservation, developing water-soluble delivery technology. The science of capturing and delivering the full spectrum of a plant's compounds wasn't new to us. We'd been doing it.
Then we looked at the hop industry. What we found shocked us.
The biggest hop companies in the world were still using CO2 extraction โ a technology that produces oil-based concentrates incapable of dissolving in water. They were spending millions trying to make oil behave like water through post-processing, emulsifiers, and workarounds. The entire industry was engineering around a problem instead of solving it at the source.
We had the solution. We'd been using it for years in botanical extraction. Same plant family. Same compounds. Same chemistry. We just needed to apply it to hops.
The hop industry has been controlled by a handful of companies for decades. Proprietary varieties, restricted access, and processing methods that destroy 80% of what makes hops valuable. We believe brewers deserve better โ better technology, better economics, and better beer. HopXL exists to make that possible.
The brewing industry has done things the same way for over a century โ not because it's the best way, but because there was no alternative. We believe technology should serve the beer, not the other way around. When science produces a better result, tradition should evolve.
We don't pitch. We educate. When a brewer understands the science โ what processing destroys, what extraction preserves, what water solubility means for their product โ the conversation changes naturally. Our job is to share knowledge. The product sells itself.
The hop industry is built on restricting access through proprietary varieties, licensing, and controlled supply. We believe brewers should own their flavor profiles. With compound-level extraction, a brewery's signature taste belongs to them โ not to a hop merchant's catalog.
20+ years of VP-level sales and marketing experience across multiple industries. 30 years of web development expertise. Background in clinical and behavioral psychology. Rick leads HopXL's market strategy, brewer education, and industry outreach โ building the brand through science-driven content and direct conversations with brewers.
Mark brings deep expertise in botanical extraction science and PBX (Pure Botanical Extraction) technology. His technical leadership drives HopXL's extraction process development, product quality, and innovation pipeline โ ensuring every batch delivers the full spectrum of the hop cone in water-soluble form.
HopXL's extraction process and water-soluble formulation technology are protected by our patent filing (provisional filed Q1 2024). Both our extraction solvent and solubilizer are FDA approved for use in consumer beverages. Our technology represents a fundamental advance in how hop compounds are captured and delivered โ not an incremental improvement to existing methods.
If you're a brewer, a beverage company, or anyone interested in what the future of hops looks like โ let's have a conversation.
